Environment: Protecting our Health
We all have a responsibility to act as stewards of the planet that sustains us. I have led efforts to develop a Community Energy Plan that provides an aggressive and achievable energy reduction strategy for our community that will advance our economic competitiveness, enhance energy security and protect our environment while saving residents and businesses money.
Storm water management, recycling and green building practices are important elements of our long-term sustainability. Air and water quality are important measures of our success. The Chesapeake Bay should be brought back to health. I look forward to developing a Food Action Plan based on the recommendations of our Urban Agriculture Task Force.
As we grow and welcome more people and jobs to Arlington and to the region, we must protect, enhance and connect our opens spaces, parks and trails. As we develop our newest park asset, Long Bridge Park, we should also continue investment in our neighborhood parks and support development of a boathouse for non-motorized boats on the Potomac River. As a dog owner, I also value Arlington’s community canine areas that well serve our four-legged pals and their owners.
